How Learning Happens by Paul Kirschner and Carl Hendrick

This was a book I was very excited about. The back page has glowing commendations from Willingham, Wiliam and Sherrington. Hard to argue with that. It is beautiful looking with a clear structure and some lovely illustrations by Caviglioli. It contains 28 reviews of key research papers. Connect the Dots by Tricia Taylor

This is an elegant looking and very thorough book. It focuses on three key aspects of the learning process – positive relationships, memory and learning mindsets. For each area there is a very detailed, readable and informative research section which signposts further reading very well. It is a key outline of how memory works and the importance of encoding knowledge. It challenges misconceptions around learning styles and promotes more effective teachingContinue reading “Making it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger and Mark Mcdaniel”

Memorable Teaching by Peps Mccrea

I think Dylan Wiliam said it best “If you have a spare half-hour or so, you could read Memorable Teaching from cover to cover. I doubt you’ll find an education book withContinue reading “Memorable Teaching by Peps Mccrea”
